sell as is, it will be harder because the buyer will have to take on the job and it will be harder to get a fair price as is. Most would be car buyers want a turn key deal, no fuss no muss. Engine out, expect offers $3500 or more below book plus half the cost of mods. It never suprises me at how would be buyers think mods are not worth the extra cost, but they want the car anyway. Gotta pay to play s what I tell them. I know spending the money is like the Moneypit movie, but you have all the parts and a friend to help with the install, you're ahead of the game already. Save $2500 in shop fees easily, dyi and that's assuming noting else is needed once the work begins.
